Computed Axial Tomography (CT or CAT) is a computer-enhanced X-ray study that produces images of the inside of your body. It can be used to evaluate the head, blood vessels, neck, chest, abdomen/pelvis, and bones and joints.
The world's first high definition CT scanner at Mayfair Diagnostics provides unprecedented image quality, giving your doctor sharper detail for a more confident diagnosis.
At Mayfair Diagnostics, high definition also means lower radiation. Unlike other private CT scanners in Calgary, our revolutionary Discovery CT from GE Heathcare features technology to reduce your exposure to radiation by up to 50%.
High definition 3D images for your doctor and low radiation for you - the quality of care you expect from Mayfair Diagnostics.
CT imaging is one of the best tools for studying the chest and abdomen because it provides detailed, cross-sectional views of all types of tissue. Often, too, it is the preferred method for diagnosing many different cancers (including lung, liver and pancreatic cancer) since the images allow a physician to confirm the presence of a tumor and measure its size, precise location and the extent of the tumor's involvement with other nearby tissue. CT is also invaluable in diagnosing and treating spinal problems and injuries to the hands, feet and other skeletal structures because it can clearly show even very small bones as well as surrounding tissues such as muscle and blood vessels.
Physicians often use CT imaging to plan and properly administer radiation treatments for tumors, plan surgery, measure bone mineral density for the detection of osteoporosis, or quickly identify injuries to the liver, spleen, kidneys or other internal organs in cases of trauma.
